In Sarah Ruhl’s fresh and witty comedy — Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Jean is enjoying a bowl of lobster bisque by herself, when some guy’s cell phone goes off. After asking him to turn it off repeatedly, she discovers that he(Gordon) is dead. Impulsively she answers the phone and as she continues to do so, she unexpectedly finds herself pushed out of her own introverted life and into the mysterious one of a stranger. Director Brad Moniz (Desire Under the Elms, Why Torture is Wrong and the People Who Them Them, The Illusion, founder of Chico’s Shakespeare in the Park) brings a Sarah Ruhl play to the Blueroom for the first time. Dead Man’s Cell Phone will play Friday and Saturday nights from Jan 13 – Feb 7, 2012 with a special actor’s benefit on January 29, 2012. (Mature themes, some strong language)

The Blue Room is partnering with CSU Chico AS Recycling to collect old cell phone. Collection bins will be available at every show.

The legend of country hero, Hank Williams comes to the Blue Room Theatre this February! Tony®-nominated writer-director Randal Myler’s (It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues, Love Janis) and actor-writer Mark Harelik’s musical biography takes us through a unique journey of  Williams’  beginnings on the Louisiana Hayride to his triumphs on the Grand Ole Opry to his eventual self-destruction at twenty-nine.

Actor- director, Loki Miller (Into the Woods, Willy Wonka Jr.) and the recreated The Drifting Cowboys will be performing hit songs such as “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “Hey, Good Lookin’” and “Jambalaya,”  which are given fresh and profound resonance set in the context of Williams’ life. Hank Williams: Lost Highway will be playing Thursday – Saturday nights February 17- March 10^th with a special cast and crew’s benefit on Sunday, March 4th, 2012.  Tickets will be  available at the door and online.

Extreme No. 1 Improv Night is Chico’s most popular night of improvisation that doesn’t involve an annoying jam-band. A single suggestion from you, the audience member, could send these improvisers on a journey to space, to battle in the Peloponnesian War or simply to the store for a gallon of milk (did I mention the store is on fire and the milk is poison?) They do everything from short-form improv games to full-fledged one-act plays. All written, directed and acted in front of your eyes.

Somewhere between Chico and Paradise, Paradise and Oroville, Oroville and Chico (but nowhere near Butte College) is a town called Sketch Valley. Every month, through brief vignettes, we catch a glimpse of the simple, simple people that make up this magical place. Watch as they fill multiple occupations in one day and occasionally wrangle local notable actors and musicians to perform alongside them. Sketch Valley: Sketch Comedy from the Heart of Butte County.
